Is it an art gallery, or is it a custom home? This time, the answer is … both. For Unscripted's latest custom residential project in Colorado, we were delighted to design a fresh new living space around our well-traveled clients’ ever-growing personal art collection—one that rivals any gallery. With a keen eye for rugged and earthy art pieces, our clients requested a home design with clean, modern architecture that would highlight their collection, as well as reflect their worldly lifestyle and warm, western aesthetic.
A Kitchen Beyond Culinary
"The most exciting part of this particular custom design is the juxtaposition between the client's mid-west roots and the modern metro vibes of their new construction home. A mecca for entertaining, the kitchen is a really great representation of that balance. Natural wood floors pair beautifully with the marble infinity island." —Erica Lax, Director of Design, Residential
To Dine For
Senior Interior Designer and project lead Rebecca Moore selected hand-forged metal and curved linen dining chairs to accentuate the rugged features of the clients’ solid walnut mortise and tenon custom dining table from Montana.
"A brass peg wine wall from Vintage View, layered with black lacquered grass cloth from Phillip Jefferies, creates a stunning showcase of bottles already enjoyed by the clients—and signed by their guests—as an unexpected and personal way to savor those memories for a lifetime." —Rebecca Moore, Senior Interior Designer, Residential
The Gallery
While we think of this entire home as an art gallery, we just had to design a room for the sole purpose of displaying the family's rotating curated collection. So we ditched the standard home office space for something a little more ... unexpected.
The current collection on display includes paintings from Midwest artists as well as rustic artifacts such as heirloom hatchets, bone necklaces, driftwood sculptures and antique furs.
Ombré walls, hand painted by Magpie Painting of Denver, surround this constantly evolving art, the perfect juxtaposition to such classic pieces.
Additional abstract art, custom furniture, and accessories were brought in by our design team to complement the rotating collection. Floating ledges and natural wood pedestals create a balanced space to showcase smaller, sculptural pieces and antique curios, such as these intricate custom vases by local Colorado ceramicist Fenway Clayworks.
No Nook Overlooked
Every inch of this home provided an opportunity to spotlight a beautiful piece of a life story—yes, even the nook. This small walkway leading to the outdoor space provides pause for a captivating moment with an oversized, original painting from the clients' collection. A sleek bench, antique rug, and textured wallpaper tie the space together with intentionality, naturally urging guests to turn their attention to the magnificent landscape on display.
Suite Serenity
The primary bedroom combines our clients’ statement art pieces with crisp new furniture. Midnight wood nightstands and an upholstered custom bench surround the new four-poster bed that was chosen to compliment the dramatic art piece that hangs above it. Subtle lighting, soothing plants and calming colors adorn the space, framing a sleek entry into the primary bath.
